Fitness is often marketed as a fad or a trend – what’s the newest, greatest, easy, sexiest way to get a flat stomach? As a fitness professional, I often get asked by folks who don’t exercise, “Oh, Coach, what do you know about this supplement, or intermittent fasting, or muscle confusion?” The list goes on and on.
Or someone will say to me, “I want to get in shape, and I’m doing Zumba, Pilates, but I’m not getting results.” And while I encourage people to find exercise that they enjoy, here’s the basic, no frills, answer to these questions.
If you want to transform your physique and improve your health along the way, you are much better off doing strength training. It’s time to get back to the basics:
- Strength and conditioning 3 times/week
- Eat 3-5 meals/daily
- Choose lean protein, vegetables, some fruit, and healthy fats.
Remember, proper strength training will also give you cardiovascular results, and by adding improved eating habits, you will start seeing results.
“Ah,” says the skeptics. “Old news, nothing new, I’ve tried it all before.”
Okay, then, well let me challenge you! Now is the time to quit trying and decide to do it.
What if you promised your romantic partner that you would not cheat on them, and they, in return, said they would try not to cheat on you. Would that make you feel confident about their fidelity?
Yeah, so don’t give yourself an out. As my little friend Yoda says, “Do or do not. There is no try.”
