At Personally Fit we take Diabetes seriously. We offer some basic solutions to this deleterious disease. A diagnosis of pre-diabetes is a warning that a person is at risk of developing a much more serious condition like Type 2 Diabetes, cardiovascular disease and stroke! Pre-diabetes means that a person has higher blood glucose levels than normal.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC, 2014) states that one in three American adults, or 86 million people, have pre-diabetes. The big problem is that 9 out of 10 do not know they have it. Yikes!

Left unchecked, and not making any lifestyle changes, 15-30% of the people with pre-diabetes will develop Type 2 Diabetes and all the other risk factors it brings within 5 years!

At Personally Fit we do not diagnose, but some of the factors increasing a person’s risk are:
– Age 45 or older
– Has a parent, brother or sister with diabetes
– Is overweight
– Is physically inactive
– Has high blood pressure or takes medication for high blood pressure
– Has low HDL (good cholesterol) and/or high triglycerides

Doing just two things can help prevent or delay the onset of Type 2 Diabetes:

1. Lose 5-7% of body weight or 10-14 pounds for a 200 lb person.

2. Perform at least 150 minutes each week of physical activity (Join our Walking Through the Holidays Program!)
